The Power of Community and Connection

For Francois, owner of Yego Coffee, coffee is more than just a business—it’s a legacy. Coming from a family of coffee makers spanning generations, Francois has always been passionate about bringing the finest coffee from Rwanda to his customers in Boston. But like many small business owners, he faced a critical challenge: he lacked a true banking relationship—one that went beyond just holding a checking account.

When Francois first met Andrea Ierace from Ascendus, he didn’t have access to capital. He had built his business from the ground up, and he had never been given the financial guidance or opportunities he needed to grow.

Recognizing his potential, Andrea didn’t just see him as a client—he saw an entrepreneur who needed the right connections to thrive. Ascendus wasn’t able to provide him with a loan at the time so Andrea introduced him to Jorge AndradeVice President- Senior Business Banker at M&T Bank. That same night, Jorge called Francois. The next day, he was at Francois’ café, starting a conversation that would change his business forever.

The Power of Relationships

Banking, as Francois quickly learned, isn’t just about transactions—it’s about relationships. Through this new connection, Francois didn’t just gain a business banker; he gained a team invested in his success. M&T Bank offered him a line of credit, helping him manage cash flow while he worked towards consolidating a large equipment loan.

But the impact of this connection went beyond finances. Francois became part of a larger ecosystem of support—attending events, networking with key decision-makers, and even earning a feature in The Boston Globe as one of Boston’s Top 10 Cafés.

A Business Rooted in Legacy, Growing with Support

Francois’ journey embodies what Ascendus stands for: we are more than lenders—we are connectors, advisors, and uplifters for small businesses.

His café isn’t just a business; it’s a continuation of his family’s legacy. He personally roasts coffee sourced from Rwanda, carrying forward generations of expertise. With the right support system, he’s now able to formalize his business, strengthen his financial foundation, and continue growing his impact.

This Way Up

At Ascendus, we believe that every small business deserves the chance to thrive—not just with funding, but with the right connections and opportunities. Francois’ story isn’t just about moving his bank account or securing financing; it’s about what happens when the right people come together to uplift a business and its community.

Because when small businesses rise, communities rise with them. This is what financial ascension looks like.
