“Now, people come from all over, and they always leave enjoying the food.” –Nicolas Paulino
The Paulinos are no stranger to having to start over. When Nicholas and Ana Paulino emigrated from the Dominican Republic 25 years ago, they had to start a new life in a foreign place. To make ends meet, Nicholas found work in a well-known restaurant chain, where he came to develop a love and knack for cooking. When the chain moved to Miami, the Paulinos followed.
In 2011, the restaurant closed and Nicholas was laid off. Once again, Nicholas and Ana had to start over. Unable to find work in a different restaurant, Nicholas saw the opportunity to start his own.
A loan from Ascendus helped the Paulinos open their restaurant, Seven Seas Restaurant and Fish Market. “Be patient, people told me,” said Nicholas. “But I knew I had to open the restaurant. Now, people come from all over, and they always leave enjoying the food.” Today, the business supports their entire household and is a pillar in the community, providing jobs and a small taste of home for many.
