Creating Safer Environments for Floridians

Alex Nunez’s company, Digital E Consulting, was quickly gaining traction, but it was at a faster pace than he expected, and he did not have the capital to meet the demand. After receiving financial counselling from our partners at Prospera, Alex was referred to Ascendus and received a $12,000 from the Entrepreneurs of Color Fund. “The Ascendus loan came at the perfect moment because I had work orders that I needed to fulfil, and I did not have the capital to do it. I would not have been able to complete these big opportunities if I did not have the help of the loan.”

Those big opportunities included contracts with the local government and universities, such as FIU and Miami Dade College. “Now we collaborate with the local government and universities to help them understand the elevation, sea tides, and flooding areas so we can build better infrastructure in these areas. These studies will help to improve litigation measures for climate and natural disaster hazards.”

HOW ALEX IS CREATING SAFER INFRASTRUCTRE IN FLORIDA

Alex’s goal is to create a safer living environment for his community in Florida. “Because of the geographic position of South Florida, we get hit by storms and hurricanes frequently. The rising sea level creates the need for having a better understanding of our shorelines. My goal was to create innovative technologies that will allow our cities to keep growing and thriving despite the frequent hits we get.”

Digital E Consulting is making Florida infrastructure safer in a unique way – with drones. “Drones are safer and can capture data in areas humans cannot go to – they can go underwater and inspect the sea floor, go to disaster areas, monitor our pipes, and beach erosion. They can map out areas without having anyone be at risk.”

“I want to see Florida become the resilience capital of the world in terms of climate change. My company can help do that. I am passionate about people and helping others, and creating my own company was the best way for me to help my community. The Ascendus loan helped me to further my goals. I am proof that these opportunities and resources have a big positive impact on local small businesses.”

When Alex reminisces about working with Ascendus, his memories are centered on the good customer support he received. “I love Fabiana.
